Hiking the Appalachian Trail in Carlisle PA

May 30, 2019

It's October 1921, a regional planner by the name of Benton MacKaye proposes his new idea: "An Appalachian Trail: A Project in Regional Planning". Flash forward to August 1937, when a footpath reaching from Maine to Georgia is completed and plans to build shelters along all 2,000 miles are taking hold. We keep going and land in 1968, when President Johnson signs off on the National Trails System Act, making the Appalachian Trail an national scenic trail. Flashing all the way forward to today, here in 2019, as we celebrate 93 years of caring for and hiking the Appalachian Trail.

The Appalachian Trail is a big deal here at Pheasant Field Bed and Breakfast, especially as Spring has sprung and more and more people find themselves trying to get outside. Less than a mile away from the Appalachian Trail, we love to take care of those making the impressive journey. In addition to the "home away from home" amenities we always offer, we like to provide extra services to hikers coming through our neck of the woods. These are services such as:

Holding resupply boxes that are mailed to us, for when you need to replenish supplies;
Transportation support for hikers within 50 miles north or south on the trail;
Being an Appalachian Trail Passport Stamp Station.

Since we're listed in the Guthook App and in the Appalachian Trail Guide, as well as only being four miles from the Mid-Atlantic AT Conservancy Office in Boiling Springs, Pheasant Field is very easy to find; and Booking Reservations are even easier (#BOOKdirect). So let us provide you with respite and some hot breakfast before you hit the road- or trail in this case!
